The best activities for jumping into autumn

The best activities for jumping into autumn

We’ll tell you the best plans for enjoying autumn’s arrival: taking care of your body and mind, sport, and Elba Hotels’ top destinations.

The summer is mere hours away from its end. The autumn equinox will leave behind the days of sun and sand, as well as the dreadful heat that we so often complain about…and that we’ll dearly miss once September is in full swing.

Autumn is about to begin and, although some Spanish destinations still offer sun and sand, the good weather has given way to lower temperatures, shorter days and better conditions for sport, family trips, and even good deals on accommodation. Are you ready to plan your autumn getaway?

You can decide what kind of autumn you want

A sporty autumn? The climate conditions are perfect in September and October for playing golf, as long as the rain holds out for the last months of the season. You won’t need to get up so early anymore to avoid the hottest time of day. On the other hand, for those who love running, big cities are once again a possibility and beaches are once again accessible, without the excess of beachgoers.

Celebrate Oktoberfest in Spain!

Celebrate Oktoberfest in Spain!

Oktoberfest is coming! We’ll tell you about the origins of this popular German celebration and the best ways to celebrate it with Elba Hotels.

The Bavarian beer festival is about to begin. This weekend in Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and, of course, Spain, Oktoberfest 2018 will kick off, a tradition that is over two centuries old and brings together 6 million annual visitors in the city of Munich.

The rules state that during these two weeks only beer from the six factories in Munich can be served and it must be of the Märzen variety. This type is not fermented for long and may have an alcohol content of up to 6%, being stronger and darker than traditional beer.

Get ready to go back to work with Elba Hotels

Going back to work after your holidays often comes with the post-holiday blues. Here are the best tips to get passed it.

Your schedule is transformed, sport is no longer a priority and you completely forget the burden of daily occurrences. This describes the holidays of many who are going back to work this week. And lots of people suffer!

Not returning the day right before going back, keeping active during your holidays and having healthy eating habits is some advice from specialists to avoid the post-holiday blues. Definitively, it’s about preparing your return to work after holidays.

What are the post-holiday blues?

This is an adaptive disorder that can be conditioned by a multitude of factors, beyond the obvious return to work and the "sadness" brought on due to your days of leisure coming to an end. Those who suffer have usually had a longer holiday than usual, may not like their job that much, don’t feel valued or work in an unpleasant environment.

Happy International Human Solidarity Day!

Happy International Human Solidarity Day!

31 August is International Human Solidarity Day. Learn about the best phrases, images and the origin of this holiday, celebrating cooperation for world peace.

“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another”. Charles Dickens.

The concept of solidarity has no other meaning than giving something to others without expecting anything in return, usually to those who have less and/or who suffer more. This is the main objective of International Human Solidarity Day, to think less about ourselves and more about those who nobody else thinks about.

Let Elba Hotels tell you why we celebrate on 31 August and some ways to celebrate this day.

Origins of the holiday

At the end of the year 2000, the UN proclaimed 31 August as International Human Solidarity Day, coinciding with the anniversary of the beginning of the Solidarnosc movement, a Polish union that had great influence on the end of communism and the beginning of a democratic system in Poland. Its leader, Lech Walesa, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983.

Learn all about the good cuisine from the Cadiz province

Learn all about the good cuisine from the Cadiz province

Cadiz is rich in its culture and traditions, with a cuisine full of delicious typical dishes and desserts. We’ll show you those you can’t miss.

Appreciated throughout the world, Spain’s cuisine is one of its main cultural ambassadors, thanks to the quality of its products, the healthy Mediterranean diet, and the tradition and variety found from north to south.

The food in Cadiz is a result of the continuous union of various cultures. From the Phoenicians and Romans they learned new ways to preserve fish and prepare ancient sauces. With the Arabs came stoves, and the Jews and Christians brought a great variety of recipes, which, with the discovery of the Americas, included newly imported products.

We are talking about a gastronomy that tells the story of our country, which can be enjoyed with Elba Hotels in Cadiz, at the Costa Ballena Hotel.

Typical Cadiz recipes

Cadiz has a rich and varied cuisine, coming from three different areas: the sea, the fields and the mountains.

International Gay Pride

International Gay Pride

Gay Pride demands diversity and sexual freedom in many Spanish cities. We’ll tell you how this movement came about and where to celebrate it.

No one should be ashamed of their sexual orientation. We should all be free to express ourselves and show who we are. These are the main demands of International Gay Pride, or LGTBI Pride. With this celebration, the group fights against marginalisation due to people’s tastes or sexual/affective identity.

The Meaning of Gay Pride

The origin of this initiative dates back to 28th June, 1969, when the New York police raided the Stonewall pub, a popular club within the LGTBI community; although at that time this type of raid was common, on this occasion the police lost control and the clientele rebelled. These actions led to a series of violent events known as the Stonewall riots, which marked the beginning of the commemoration of LGTBI Pride and, as a result, the fight for the rights of homosexuals.

What to do for the summer solstice

What to do for the summer solstice

The summer solstice marks the official start of the summer. We’ll tell you all about the best celebrations on Spain’s best beaches.

Firstly, let us explain what exactly the summer solstice is and what it signifies. We all know that it refers to the longest day of the year, which marks the start of summer. But why does this happen? This phenomenon occurs due to the Earth’s orbit, which is why there is always one hemisphere more illuminated than the other. This means that when a hemisphere is illuminated in all its splendour, the summer solstice occurs.

When does the summer solstice begin?

This Thursday, on 21st June 2018, the northern hemisphere will welcome the season preferred by millions of people. The warm summer then begins and we start dreaming of the perfect tan, with our long-awaited holidays and dips in the sea and pool.
