World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day seeks to raise awareness about the physical and psychological impact of this disease.

Every 4th of February is World Cancer Day, a disease that affects one in three men and one in four women throughout their lives. The cases diagnosed in Spain are around 200,000 annually. Fortunately, thanks to scientific advances, more and more patients are overcoming the disease and there is a general increase in life expectancy.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has proposed a global goal to reduce deaths from this disease by 2% per year, which would mean saving 8 million lives in ten years.

Healthy habits

In addition to the technological and scientific advances that help the diagnosis and treatment of this disease, it is commonly accepted that maintaining certain healthy habits on a personal level represents a positive factor in cancer prevention.

Book your next vacation with the Black Friday limited offer at Elba Hotels

Do you want to save up to 40% on your next vacation? Then do not miss the offers that Elba Hotels will launch during the next Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The origin of Black Friday dates back to the 60s in the United States. The day after Thanksgiving, small businesses eliminated red numbers from their accounts and turned them into black numbers thanks to the start of the Christmas shopping season.

The first place in which this term was coined was in Philadelphia, where city police called it “black Friday” because of the high traffic and volume of people who went out to the streets of the city in search of their first Christmas shopping.

Regarding the origin of Cyber Monday, this is more recent. This day with promotions and offers was created in the 2000s with the aim of promoting online shopping. Unlike now, at the beginning of the 21st century consumers were reluctant to buy online.

The celebration of St. Patrick's Day

The celebration of St. Patrick's Day

The origin of St. Patrick's Day comes from Ireland and since its inception it has been celebrated everywhere in the world where there was an Irish.

There are only a few days left to the most famous Irish feast: St. Patrick's Day, the patron saint of Ireland, which is celebrated on March 17. Sure you have seen images of this holiday where the streets and people are dressed in green, but if you want to know who is St. Patrick and why it is celebrated, we tell you in today's blog.

St. Patrick's Origin

What began as a religious feast has, over time, been transformed into a mass celebration. St. Patrick was a Catholic missionary who lived in the 5th century and is considered to have introduced Catholicism to Ireland. However, and as a curiosity, it seems that the saint was not of Irish origin, but Scottish or Welsh. In his youth he was kidnapped by pirates and taken to Northern Ireland, where he was sold into slavery. When he managed to escape, St. Patrick continued his religious studies and founded several Christian schools and monasteries.
