Gibraltar, on the doorstep of Elba Hotels

Gibraltar, on the doorstep of Elba Hotels

There is another country at a stone’s throw away from Andalusia – and we are not talking about Portugal; we are talking about the UK. Gibraltar, only a few kilometres away from Elba Estepona and under two hours away from Elba Costa Ballena, is the perfect getaway to get to know the British culture and traditions.

What not to miss in Gibraltar

The most well-known attraction in Gibraltar is the Rock. You can reach the top riding the funicular, on foot (not suitable for those who don’t like steps) or by car. Once there, you can enjoy the views and meet the famous macaques, who mainly frequent the area known as the Guarida de los Monos (Apes’ Den). These African apes are a tailless species, and have inhabited Gibraltar for thousands of years. And by the way – do not feed them, you will be fined!

Let’s start with the little ones. You may already know our visitors’ favourite mascot: Pepe. He loves meeting our youngest guests, and visiting them during lunchtime or at the pool. We also have fantastic animation services, as well as daily and nightly activities in all our seaside hotels, adapted to different ages and languages. They will have a fantastic time meeting other kids!

Sierra de Grazalema mountains, Cádiz

Even though most of us associate Cádiz with beautiful sandy beaches, there is a hidden gem in the northeastern region of the province, bordering Málaga.

If you love hiking and mountains, the Sierra de Grazalema, which was declared a UN Biosphere Reserve in 1977, is a must. It is located in the Cordillera Penibética, and it is the perfect sport for a nature getaway. Hikers can choose from about 20 different routes, with varying degrees of difficulty.

Hiking routes in Sierra de Grazalema

The ‘Calzada Romana’ route is about 3.5 km long, and is considered one of the easiest, as the terrain is pretty even throughout. It runs between Benaocaz and Ubrique, and it is extremely well preserved. The archaeological remains show the many peoples – Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs… – that have inhabited this area across the centuries. Each of them has left their mark, and influenced traditions and customs.

Visit Cadiz all year round

Visit Cadiz all year round

The word is that… every cloud has a silver lining. Therefore, we have decided that one of the best options we have is to travel to Cadiz, a destination where you will be able to enjoy beautiful landscapes, delicious cuisine and, above all, good weather throughout the year.

A city with multiple options such as visiting the Cadiz Museum to learn about its art or the remains of Roman cities such as Baelo Claudia in Tarifa and Carteia in San Roque. A tour to contemplate the paintings by artists like El Greco, Murillo, Zurbaran and Goya, whose works are scattered in different corners and museums around the city.

A city of many alternatives to get to know Cadiz inside out such as taking a tour through the white villages or Fronteram, enjoying its nature by visiting the Natural Park of Alcornocales, the best preserve woodland in the mainland.

For the food lovers… Cadiz city is the best option to enjoy their delicious olive oil with protected designation of origin, Arab confectionery and traditional stews, among many other delicacies. Simply mouth watering!

Fuerteventura, a destination with lots to offer

Fuerteventura

One of Elba’s favourite destinations is Fuerteventura. Most of its hotels are located here. A place with multiple spaces to discover, with wonderful weather all year round and with a wide selection of activities and events that will ensure the entertainment and fun of visitors and locals alike.

One of the characteristics that claim the attention of the visitors when they land is the “lunar” landscape of the island, surrounded by volcanic remains and almost no vegetation. However, its great natural wealth has lead to classify the Fuerteventura environment as a natural reserve and its beaches - the best in the whole Canary Islands - are the most predominant reason to chose the island as a place to relax, enjoy the family and practice all sorts of sports, even the ones that give you a huge adrenaline rush.

Although the island can be visited all year round and you can enjoy each one of seasons of the year, autumn is a good time to travel there. The trade winds are calmer, the temperatures are still pleasant (which allows to scape from the cold days of your homeplace) and the island is not as crowded by tourists as it is in other times of the year.
