World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day seeks to raise awareness about the physical and psychological impact of this disease.

Every 4th of February is World Cancer Day, a disease that affects one in three men and one in four women throughout their lives. The cases diagnosed in Spain are around 200,000 annually. Fortunately, thanks to scientific advances, more and more patients are overcoming the disease and there is a general increase in life expectancy.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has proposed a global goal to reduce deaths from this disease by 2% per year, which would mean saving 8 million lives in ten years.

Healthy habits

In addition to the technological and scientific advances that help the diagnosis and treatment of this disease, it is commonly accepted that maintaining certain healthy habits on a personal level represents a positive factor in cancer prevention.

In 2022, the World Cancer Day association launched a three-year campaign under the slogan "Close the care gap", which aims about understanding and recognising the inequities in cancer care around the globe. It is important to become aware in our daily lives of the importance of our individual actions.

And at this point we ask ourselves, what can we do? Well, of course, have a healthy life, practice sport regularly and take care of your diet, trying to avoid exposure to carcinogenic substances.

It is also essential to be aware of potential symptoms, as changes in our bodies can alert us that something is not right. Early detection is vital.

Obviously all our actions will be more far-reaching if we take a collective view. In fact, World Cancer Day means that we must all fight to raise the awareness and mobilize society to advance the prevention and control of this disease that causes so much suffering.

Never forget the global power of your actions!
