Do you know why International Women's Day is celebrated on this date? We’ll tell you everything you need to know about this special day.
Today commemorates a great milestone for all humanity. It marks one of those moments when both men and women are demanding more equality between both genders, both in work and personal life. But...why is it celebrated on 8 March and how did this day come to be?
History of International Women's Day
Until recently, women were treated very poorly in the workplace. In the mid-19th century, a group of working New York women decided to take to the streets of the city on 8 March to demand their rights, in the face of the terrible conditions they suffered in the textile factory where they were employed.
Although the reason for this is not very clear, what is certain is that since that far off day in 1857, things began to change for them. In all countries around the world, the streets began to fill up with female voices demanding improvements in the workplace. Little by little, all of this led to the various governments creating measures for their progress.
Happy International Women's Day
Here at Elba Hotels, we would like to thank you all. To those who rose up one day so that today the rest of us could have equal rights to men, despite there still being a long way to go. Real equality between men and women has not yet come about.
Women are a fundamental pillar in all families. They are our best friends, daughters, mothers and grandmothers. What would we do without them? If you want to give any of them something special, consider our "promotions-gift". But, above all, remember how extraordinary they are.
Happy International Women's Day from Elba Hotels!
