On September 27 we celebrate World Tourism Day. We tell you the origin of this celebration and we give you the best tips to travel responsibly.
If you are reading this blog, we assume it is because you like to travel, but do you know where travelers' day comes from? Since 1980, World Tourism Day is celebrated every September 27. However, this date was not chosen by chance: it was that day - in 1970 - when the Statutes of the World Tourism Organization, the UNWTO, were approved. The main purpose of this celebration is to raise awareness among the international community about the value of tourism from a cultural, social, political and economic point of view, and this year, New Delhi has been the city chosen as the host for the annual event.
Tips for traveling in a sustainable and responsible way
From the UNWTO it is also intended that the tourism sector contributes to achieving the sustainable development goals that the UN set for 2030. In our hand is to contribute as much as we can while doing our favorite activity. Our actions can help achieve those goals, as well as reduce carbon in the environment during our trip. From Elba Hotels we propose you some ideas:
- Use public transport. As in your city, using shared transport instead of a private vehicle will help reduce the carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere..
- Reduce your organic waste. Sometimes we forget, but: when you are traveling you can also recycle.
- Respect the flora and fauna of the place you are visiting. Any activities that include irresponsible practices with animals should also be rejected.
- Do not waste water, especially in places with drought or where it is very scarce.
And remember: in general, the less resources you consume on your trips, the more you will help reduce the environmental impact. You will enjoy the same, but in a more sustainable and responsible way with the world in which we live.
