What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is an American tradition that involves a significant discount on store prices on the fourth Friday of November— that is, one day after Thanksgiving. In the U.S.A. and Canada it is a deeply rooted tradition which is increasingly exported to the whole world, as is the case of Black Friday in Spain.

Its origin is somewhat diffuse, although three theories exist: some claim that it began on Friday, 24 September 1969, when two savvy Wall Street bankers went bankrupt. Others point to the increase in sales with the celebration of Thanksgiving, when profits went from being in the red to positive numbers, while others claim that it is a term coined by the New York Times to refer to the chaos in transit caused by discounted prices.

What is Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday is a much more modern tradition, specifically starting in 2005. On this Monday, stores also offer discounts, but in the case, there is a stronger emphasis on technology-related products and an increase in online sales. The holiday started in order to boost online sales, which were not so usual just a few years ago.
