Eurovision 2018 is here!

The world’s most important song contest is just around the corner. We’ll tell you who won Eurovision last year, some trivia and the favourites for this year.

Next Saturday the magic of Eurovision will shine in millions of homes all over Europe with the greatest musical show of the year. Last year, the young Salvador Sobral triumphed in Kiev with his song “Amar pelos dois”.

Lisbon is hosting the long-running show’s 63rd year in the Altice Arena; a show which Spain has only won two times. How many participants are competing? Who are the favourites? Elba Hotels has guests from all over Europe, which is why we are bringing you the latest news regarding the event.

Festival trivia

In 2018 the contest had 43 participating countries, a record number together with 2008 and 2011. Russia returns after last year in the Ukraine, and despite previous reports, Macedonia will also be participating.

Norway’s Alexander Rybak will once again compete in the contest after his 2009 victory with the song “Fairytale”. And he’ll back with his violin.

Betting pools have high hopes for Spain

Despite not often having success in the contest, Spain’s competing song, “Tu Canción,” performed by Alfred y Amaia, is very popular among Eurofans. Some pools have put us in the top five.

The favourite is the Israeli Netta with the song “Toy”, a carefree melody with a clear feminist message. The participants from France, Czech Republic and Australia are not too far behind.

The songs from Belgium, Bulgaria and the ever-competitive Sweden, together with Spain, are the countries with the best chances of winning, according to betting pools.

On the contrary, San Marino has the worst odds for this year.

What about you? Who’s your favourite to win?
