Playas en Lanzarote

When we think of the perfect beach holiday, many of us picture a place where we can escape from the daily routine, connect with nature, relax and enjoy a good swim without a care in the world.

In this regard, Lanzarote - one of the best destinations in Spain for lovers of sun, sea and tranquillity - fits the bill perfectly. Besides incredible volcanic landscapes, the island has an impressive variety of beaches with crystal-clear waters. From long stretches of golden sand to small hidden coves, these beaches can be enjoyed all year round.

Here at Elba Hotels we invite you to discover the best beaches in Lanzarote. These beaches are not only beautiful, but also perfect for swimming and enjoying a day out with friends or family.

What are the best beaches in Lanzarote?

Below, we have prepared a selection of what, in our opinion, are some of the best beaches in Lanzarote for swimming and sunbathing.

Playa Blanca

Located in the south of Lanzarote, Playa Blanca is situated in the centre of the town with the same name. It has a beautiful promenade which is very pleasant to walk along and enjoy the sea views. It has a wide variety of shops and beach bars and is ideal for those who prefer the convenience of having everything you need close by.

The sea is calm here which makes it perfect for families with small children or those looking for a safe and comfortable place to swim.

Playa Papagayo

Located in the south of the island, Playa Papagayo is probably the most famous and most photographed beach in Lanzarote. And no wonder, as it looks like something you would see on a postcard. A beautiful cove of fine golden sand, it is surrounded by cliffs that protect it from the wind and make it feel like a secret hideaway. Furthermore, to get there, you have to cross  Los Ajaches Natural Monument, an area surrounded by spectacular volcanic landscapes.

But, undoubtedly, the most outstanding feature is the beautiful turquoise blue of its waters, which, contrasting with the sand, creates a spectacle that is hard to forget. It is the ideal setting for those who enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving.

Playa Mujeres

Also located in Los Ajaches Natural Monument, Playa Mujeres is one of the best white sand beaches in Lanzarote and is perfect for those seeking plenty of space and tranquillity. As it is longer, even in high season it is possible to find a spot where you can relax without feeling crowded.

Its shallow waters and gentle waves make it an excellent option for families as children can play and enjoy the water safely while their parents relax. In addition, due to its location, it is possible to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the island of Fuerteventura. It is even better at sunset when the sky is tinged with warm colours and leaves a spectacular image over the water.

Playa del Pozo

Playa del Pozo is another cove in the same area as Los Ajaches Natural Monument.  It has very fine golden sand and clear waters that invite you to take a leisurely swim and discover the impressive marine life hidden beneath the surface.

It is also more secluded and has a more intimate atmosphere, and since there are no facilities here, it remains practically unspoilt. This makes it ideal for those who are looking for a more secluded spot where they can disconnect from the world.

Playa Famara

In the north of Lanzarote, Playa Famara is one of the most spectacular beaches on the island. It stretches for several kilometres and is surrounded by impressive cliffs which create a truly breathtaking landscape.

Admittedly, the force of the wind and the waves mean that it is not always the best place for swimming, but its impressive natural surroundings and the feeling of spaciousness make it a must for those who enjoy wild beauty and nature in its purest form. Its long stretches of sand invite you to walk by the sea and enjoy the scenery with an unparalleled sense of freedom.

It is also a fantastic option for those looking for something more adventurous and is very popular with surfers and kitesurfers due to its constant winds. In fact, along the beach, you can find several surf schools where beginners can learn to master the waves.

As you can see, Lanzarote has an infinite number of beautiful beaches, each with its own particular charm. Whether you prefer a quieter beach with all the amenities you need nearby or something wilder and more natural where you can completely disconnect, Lanzarote has a special place for everyone.
