We are deeply committed to our destination and its local community. Whenever quality, availability, and service allow, we prioritize suppliers from Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands. This supports low-food-miles sourcing and boosts the local economy. We also incorporate environmental and social standards into our procurement, building a more responsible supply chain.
Across all our dining venues, we focus on preventing and minimizing food waste. By monitoring uneaten food, we better understand consumption patterns and optimize meal planning and kitchen prep. This allows us to make the most of our resources, reduce waste, and continually enhance our culinary offerings.
On an island like Fuerteventura, water is a precious and limited resource. We work continuously to optimize consumption through aerators, flow reducers, preventive maintenance, and active leak monitoring. We also invite our guests to join our efforts through voluntary towel-reuse and linen-change programs, avoiding unnecessary water usage.
Energy efficiency is central to our operations. Nearly all lighting at Hotel Elba Sara uses LED technology, reducing power consumption. In addition, we are gradually rolling out solar lighting across our outdoor grounds and gardens. These efforts are paired with preventive maintenance, equipment optimization, and continuous energy tracking.
We are dedicated to minimizing waste generation while improving sorting and recycling. We separate paper, cardboard, glass, packaging, and used cooking oils, while phasing out single-use items in favor of refillable solutions and reusable materials. Hazardous or specialized waste is handled strictly through certified waste management partners.
Our Mini Club Organic Garden brings sustainability to life for our youngest guests in a fun, hands-on way. We grow cherry tomatoes, peppers, radishes, basil, and rosemary, letting kids discover how plants grow. Children can plant their own seeds and learn about conscious consumption, complemented by activities from our Little Explorer Passport.
Our gardens are designed as a tribute to Fuerteventura’s natural beauty. We are cataloging our botanical species with informative guides so guests and team members can appreciate their unique traits. Furthermore, we prioritize native, climate-adapted plants with low water needs to respect the island's arid ecosystem.
True sustainability relies on measuring progress to identify areas for growth. We track key indicators including water and energy use, waste management, local purchasing, and staff training. This data helps us set targets, evaluate results, and implement new actions, moving steadily toward ever-greater sustainability.
